CLIENT: Afry
WHY: Afry is a multinational company that offers engineering, design and consulting services in three main sectors: infrastructure, industry and energy. For their convention, we were asked to design a teambuilding activity that would emphasise the company's core engineering and design skills in a sustainable manner
WHEN: 29 aprile 2022 / WHERE: Verdura Resort, Sciacca (AG)
WHAT: Following the input received, we designed a new teambuilding format based on an innovative concept of sustainable architecture: the participants would build spherical vertical vegetable gardens, which they would then fill with plants that would be donated to schools and public bodies to take care of.
HOW: For the first part of the activity, we designed wooden spheres from scratch, consisting of pieces that could fit together perfectly, making the final structure self-supporting.
The individual designed pieces were then carved with computer numerical control (CNC) milling machines to ensure homogeneity of production and precision to a hundredth of a millimetre.
At the same time, we collaborated with gardening experts to choose the best plants for the conditions and climate of the area, creating a mix of ornamental, fruit and medicinal plants, as well as initiating collaborations with the organisations that would receive the Spheres as gifts.
On site, the possibility of working as a team, while dividing roles and responsibilities according to one's skills and passions, proved to be a winning choice, while the completed and donated Spheres have, as a pleasant side effect, been widely talked about in the local media.
