CLIENT - Bluestone llc for Philips Lighting
WHY - Sicily and Taormina were selected by Philips Lighting as the place where to hold their annual European QIC (Quality Improvement Competition). Five groups of participants (circa 80 per group, for a total of over 400 people!) had to meet to challenge the other teams and win their access to the world finals.
Indeed, the QIC is a very important event for the company, and both a reward trip and a real competition, that each year provides solutions to improve products, services and, finally… income!
WHEN - April, 12th – May, 3rd 2010 / WHERE - Hotel Capotaormina**** - Taormina, and the town of Taormina
WHAT - The final client, Bluestone T.O., and us met together several months in advance to decide a theme for the event, and we all finally chose The Godfather trilogy by Francis Ford Coppola as the theme of the entire event. Two interactive gala dinners (our Godfather Night and a custom-made Celebration Night) and a custom edition of our The Invisible Cities team building format were planned and linked together to make the event really one of a kind!
HOW - Our Godfather Night was the first scheduled event, specifically planned to introduce our guests into the fictitious mafia world of Mario Puzo’s books: during the gala dinner, the participants would have met the Godfather himself, in its 200 years old villa (indeed, a place where some scenes of Coppola’s The Godfather trilogy were really shot!).
During the dinner (just after being searched by the Godfather’s armed bodyguards!), more interactive shows had to enlighten the evening: a very short Sicilian tambourine lesson (using the just gifted tambourines), live folk music and dances, sketches (like the hilarious finding of a ticking bomb under the Godfather’s table!) and a peculiar “Sicilian puppet theatre” show performed by… real actors!
The following day, it was time for our guests to be deeply involved! The Invisible Cities format (half way between a city tour and a custom photo treasure hunt) was set in Taormina, with all the tasks and staff members customized according to The Godfather theme.
Finally, that same night, we wanted to say goodbye to our guests in an elegant, still typically-Italian style, and to have them celebrate their exciting experience in the middle of the Mediterranean sea: a true Celebration Night, in short!
A special master of ceremonies, our Storyteller, in the presence of The Godfather himself, introduced a piano-violin-cello trio (our White Clef trio, specialized in world-famous movie soundtracks), a live opera singer, and, just before dancing, the screening of a professionally-edited slideshow of the photos taken by the guests during their Invisible City tour.
Was it a blast? This event won the SITE Crystal Awards 2011 for “Best motivational event in Europe”, but…
Let the photos speak for us!
